Boot Camp Teaches Language Skills As Well As Living Skills
When you’re being trained to be a missionary in the New Tribes Mission, you are trained extensively. They have a “Boot Camp” where you learn how to take unwritten languages and alphabetize them. You also go in and completely translate the Bible into the native language. This is not like translating an English Bible into French. You’re translating into a language that may only be spoken by this tribe and there are no text books to guide you in learning the language. In the highly specialized boot camp, you also learn basic skills for living in underdeveloped areas of the world.
