Nail Surgery Is Not As Alarming As It Sounds.

It may be that nail surgery sounds rather alarming because we remember hearing that ripping off a person’s nails was a torture procedure in the past!  Today it’s quite the opposite, relieving the “torture” of patients’ extreme pain from conditions such as in-growing toenails, when the nail is rough and a portion of it actually pierces the toe’s skin. While efforts may be made to cure by just removing a “spike”, it may be that Nail Surgery under local anaesthetic is necessary to remove all or part of the nail and its bed.Patients are told exactly what to expect and how to care for themselves at home. Dressings will need to be changed and care taken over footwear but many patients report little pain and paracetamol is helpful. With a low percentage of post operative problems, nail surgery is seen as a very beneficial and non-intrusive procedure.
