The Power Of Classic Songs Today

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

It’s always good to look back at classic songs whenever you start getting sick and tired of listening to contemporary music. Many agree that today’s music is a bit too repetitive and that they all sound so alike. However, when you go back and listen to songs from eras such as the 60s, 70s and even the 80s, one gets a sense that these songs were actually better than most of today’s stuff. Some say that it’s only a sense of nostalgia that makes feel this way about classic songs. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to make up your mind and see whether you embrace these songs from yesteryear.

He Wanted to Learn

Monday, December 7th, 2009

My son came up to me after I got home from work the other night, and he had a silly grin on his face.  I could tell that he was up to something.  I asked him what was going on, and he told me that he had just made a new goal for his life.  I asked him what it was, and he said that he wanted to Learn and Master guitar.  I told him that we couldn’t afford to get him a guitar yet, but he insisted that he would be able to quickly learn and master it, and it would pay for itself.

Beautiful Engagement Pictures

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

My brother is getting married. I can’t believe it! His wife to be is a wonderful lady and I am so happy for the both of them. They recently had there engagement pictures taken by two Chicago wedding photographers and if those pictures are any indication of what is to come from the wedding they will have some gorgeous memories of the ceremony. I have only saw the proofs, but I love the pictures. They look so natural and the photographer really captured the love and passion they express to one another. I am so excited for them at the start of their journey together.

A tea house facade

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

These you will see displayed on shelves and pedestals, a remnant from the time the area housed my bonsai collection. Something unique you’ll notice in the tea garden and not a part of any traditional Japanese garden is my collection of suiseki or “viewing stones” displayed in shallow trays of sand or water. So what you see in the included bonsai tree for sale photographs is just the bare bones of the garden. None of this will go forward, however until the construction of a tea house facade, the floor of which has already been laid. When I have lived with the rocks arranged as they currently are for a long enough period of time to know whether I will be able to comfortably maneuver my motorized wheelchair and scooter around them, I will begin the major plantings.

The Love of Music

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

My grandfather was a very soulful person. He would always sing and fill the house with music. I loved his music so much that once I asked him if he could give me blues guitar lessons. He was thrilled at the idea and said he would love to share his gift of music with me. Every Saturday afternoon we would set up the equipment in his shop out in the backyard and he’d first play a song. Afterwards, he would go over the notes and strums one by one. My grandfather is now gone but I will always remember the love that he passed on to me with music.
